[Okay, Gene still smells a bit like dirt and death and blood but the clothes are a big improvement. Unfortunately, the way his heart's beating and his breath is a little uneven - while not something someone without supernatural powers would notice, not to mention the odd emotional tang in his scent - are kind of a giveaway that something's up. It's weird. Isaac's always found his room kind of strangely soothing, being familiar.
